A record number of 16 Bognor swimmers qualified for the
Sussex swimming championships held at the K2 pool in Crawley
over two weekends. The swimmers all performed magnificently
and came away with honours in the form of personal bests,
rosettes, medallists, junior and senior champions, overall
best age group swimmers and second best club in Sussex in
the open ladies championships losing by only 2 points to
Crawley Swimming Club.
Youngsters Beverley Voller
age 9 and Darcy Cunningham Stockdale age 10 were competing in
their first county championships with Beverley coming 5th
in the 200m backstroke and Darcy very close to regional times in
2 events, they both gained valuable experience and personal best
times.
Abby Rowe also aged 10 was
competing for her second time and achieved a 5th and
8th place and a regional time in the 200m
breaststroke. George Smith aged 10 was virtually unbeatable in
his age group smashing his personal bests and coming away with 6
gold medals 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal as well as winning
the BAGCAT (best overall swimmer in his age group).
Jacob Loveman aged 10 swam
excellently throughout the competition gaining huge improvements
on his times and gaining regional qualifying times in 3 events
and a silver in the 400mIM and bronze in 200m breaststroke.
Nick Salerno aged 11
demonstrated just how hard he has been training throughout the
year to record some magnificent times and become county age
group champion in 3 events. He was placed second in the Bagcat
competition narrowly losing out to a swimmer from Shiverers
Club. He is now within reach of gaining some national times.
Jack Smith aged 12 swam with real determination despite being
unwell and gained several personal best times as well as 3
silver medals and 1 bronze medal.
Sam Webb was superb in the
backstroke and freestyle events recording significant
improvements on his times. Georgina Highfield, Rosie Miller and
Elanor Loveman were a strong trio in the 12year age group with
Rosie and Georgina being placed in the top 8 in several events
with some excellent swims. Elanor was in fantastic form and is
county champion in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events and
400m IM event and second in the BAGCAT competition. She also got
several regional qualifying times.
Harriet Lambourne 13 years
won 8 golds and 1 silver, including becoming the junior 100m IM
champion and the junior and senior champion in the 200m
butterfly event where she also recorded a national time. Harriet
was also the BAGCAT champion for her age group.
Becky Newman and Katie
Addison aged 14 competed in several events with Becky gaining a
bronze in the 100m butterfly and Katie gaining a bronze in the
200m backstroke event. Katie was also part of the open medley
relay team with Harriet, Elanor, and Sophie who gained a
fantastic bronze medal. Sophie Trotter aged 17 was in fine form
over the two weekends with notable performances in the 100m and
200m breaststroke and 100m and 200m IM events where she is the
county open champion, she also recorded an excellent time in the
400m IM to be placed in the silver medal position.
Coach Chris Adams was
thrilled with the performances and will now be busy preparing
the swimmers for the South East Regional Championships.
