A fantastic two weekends of
swimming at the South East Championships
saw Bognor swimmers amass an incredible 32 personal best
times, one gold
medal, one silver medal, two bronze medals, 5 national times
and the
best Sussex team in the girl's medley relay. These were among
the many
highlights of the weekends with several swimmers competing for
the
first time in a 50m pool.
Harriet Lambourne 13yrs started the competition off in fine form with a
comfortable victory in the 100m butterfly, this was followed up with top
6 placings in the 200m IM 400m IM and medley relay team. The second
weekend saw Harriet swim a very gutsy race in the 200m freestyle where
despite being seeded 9th she picked up the bronze medal.
Her final event, the 200m butterfly, was a well paced race where she just
got pipped for the gold medal in the final 25m. In the BAGCAT points Harriet
came an excellent 3rd place which was a vast improvement on her eleventh
place from last year. She also secured 5 national times and will be competing
at Sheffield at the end of July.

Bognor swimmers
competing in the Sout East Championships. Katie
Addison, Becy Newman, Harriet Lambourne, Elanor Loveman,
Georgina Highfield, Sam Rowe, Jack Smith, George Smith. |
Elanor Loveman who celebrated her 12th birthday during the
competition
continues to get tantalizingly close to her national times in
the breaststroke
and after a fantastic swim in the 200m where she destroyed the
rest of the
field in her heat, she picked up a very well deserved bronze
medal. It was a similar story in the 100m breaststroke where a
strong last 50m saw her achieve 4th place. She was also part
of the girl's medley relay team swimming a very fast
breaststroke leg.
Georgina
Highfield 11yrs, qualified for an amazing 9 events in this
competition and swam well securing several pbs. Her 800m
freestyle swim was her best event where she was placed
8th. She also swam an excellent final leg in the medley
relay where she was competing against much older
swimmers.
Becky
Newman, Jack Smith, George Smith, Katie Addison and Sam Rowe
were swimming at this level for the first time which is
testament to the hard work they have put into training
over the last few months. They all gained personal bests in
all their swims with Sam gaining 7th place in the 100m fly and
8th place in the 200m fly. Katie gave the relay team a fine
start with her backstroke leg.
Well
done to everyone.
