All over the country on
Saturday night Speedo League Gala's were being held amongst
the hundreds of swimming Clubs across England. BRSC
competed away at "The Spectrum" in Guildford, against local
rivals Chichester Cormorants, Feltham, Basingstoke
Blue-Fins, Farnham, and Rushmoor Royals 'B'.
We
came a close third despite being in second place up to the final
8 events where they were over taken by Farnham who usually beat
Bognor convincingly.
Our high score against Farnham was due to a great team
performance. There were many great individual swims for Bognor
where there is ever growing talent with increasing numbers of
swimmers reaching County and Regional levels.
Eleven
year Sam Rowe streaked ahead to win the 50m breaststroke in
44.61. Twelve year old Ellie Loveman won the 100m
breaststroke by half a length and Katie Addison showed her
versatility in the water by winning the fifteen and under 100m
breaststroke and 100m Freestyle and also the Ladies Open
backstroke.
Brothers
George and Jack Smith also came away with wins and personal best
times, George in the 10-11 year 50m backstroke and Jack in the
13 and under 100m breaststroke and Butterfly. Nick Salerno
was again looking impressive this time in his favourite strokes
Butterfly and Freestyle where he won the 10-11yr 50m.
Sophie
Trotter recorded good times in the Ladies Individual Medley and
her relay performances were again outstanding as we gained
several valuable places thanks to Sophie's sprinting skills.
Becky Newman swam near her best when she won the 15 and under
100m Backstroke.
Sam Webb swam the most swims of the night competing in the 13,
15 and Open Age Groups. Sam clocked up two individual wins but
also swam some excellent relay legs where his competitiveness
leads to exceptional take-overs.
There
were many seasonal best times for swimmers in the relays and
some of the best came from Abby Rowe (9), Amber Mitchell (10),
Darcy Stockdale-Cunningham (10), Bethany Lambourne (11), Jacob
Loveman (9), Rosemarie Miller (12), Harriet Lambourne (13),
Georgina Highfield (12), Bradley Wilde (12), Josh Todd (15),
Lucy Knight (14), Vanessa Knight (16), William Addison (12), and
Rosie Sanford (14). Bognor also could not have done
without the support from Open swimmers Dave Loveman, Claire
Foweraker and Kevin Adams who have all come back out of
retirement to help out the squad.
Chief Coach Chris Adams was delighted with the team performance
particularly in the relays were the swimmers were technically
more competitive.
Here are the final team
standings.
