A group of 7 swimmers from BRSC gained a fantastic 17 trophies
at the Thomas Handley Open Meet held at the King Alfreds
Swimming Pool in Hove.
Beverley Voller (9yrs) Jacob
Lovemann (10yrs) and George Smith (10yrs) were the youngest
representatives from the club and all gained valuable experience
in a high class event with competitors coming from as far afield
as Ipswich. Jacob gained pb’s in the 50m freestyle and
100m breaststroke events and George swam an excellent race in
his 200m backstroke event to take second place in a new personal
best time. His brother Jack (12yrs) had a superb weekend
taking seconds off his previous best times. He dominated
his age group winning the 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m
butterfly, and 200m IM events, he also came second in the 200m
butterfly.
Elanor Loveman (12yrs)
continues to out perform the rest of the field in the 100m and
200m breaststroke races where she put in strong swims to easily
gain victory with pb’s in both events and south east area
qualifying times. Her 200m butterfly event was also a pb which
was an excellent achievement as she had very little rest from
her previous swim.
Harriet Lambourne (13yrs)
had an excellent meet where she was virtually unbeatable in her
age group. She was placed first in six events and second
in one event. Her dominance was further confirmed in the 100m
butterfly, 200m freestyle, 100m and 200m breaststroke events
where she was the fastest swimmer from all the age groups. She
gained South East qualifying times in all her events and a
national qualifying time in the 200m freestyle event.
Katie Addison (14yrs) was
one of the busiest competitors from the club swimming in 8
events during the weekend. Her hard work paid off as she gained
four personal best times in the 50m and 200m freestyle, 200IM
and 200m backstroke events. Although she just missed out
on the trophies in two of her events she was thrilled to gain
second place in the backstroke event in a south east area
qualifying time.
The next major
competition is the Sussex Counties at the K2 pool in Crawley in
February and March. The club has a record 16 swimmers who have
qualified in over 150 different events.
Well
done to everyone.
