Bognor Swimmers had one of their
best ever weekends at the Sussex County Age Group
Championships on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th
February. The Championships were held at the newly
opened K2 Leisure Complex in Crawley which boasts Sussex’s
first Olympic size 50m pool although the insertion of a boom
meant the County event was held over 25m short-course.
Elanor Loveman was the first
ever winner in the new pool, swimming in the first heat of the
first event and winning her heat comfortably in a new personal
best time.
BRSC had a number of wins at
the Counties, including a clean sweep of the 9 year old boys
age group by George Smith in the 50m Fly, 50m Front-crawl and
50m backstroke. Other nine year olds swimming well were
Abby Rowe 4th 50m Fly and 4th 200m
Breaststroke, and Jacob Loveman 5th 200m
Breaststroke, 15th 50m Freestyle and 50m
Backstroke.
Harriet Lambourne was once
again in fine form, winning all her 12 year old events
including 100m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle, 100m Fly (National
Qualifying time), 400m Individual Medley (I.M.), 200m
Breaststroke, and 400m Freestyle. Amazingly Harriet also
won the Junior (under sixteen) cup in the 100m Fly at only 12
years of age.
Jack Smith (11) won the 400m
Freestyle and 400m I.M. for 11 year olds. Sophie Trotter
came away with three County titles in the Under Sixteen 4x1
I.M. and 200m Breaststroke and the Open 400m I.M., where she
lead Bognor’s only County one-two in living memory, with
Harriet Lambourne a close second. Georgina Highfield was
close to her National qualifying time in both the 200m
breaststroke which she won and the 400m I.M. where she was
second to Littlehampton’s Alexander Hunter.
There were plenty of top
three places for other Bognor swimmers with Nick Salerno 3rd
in the 10 years 50m Fly and 400m I.M., Becky Newman 3rd
in the 13 years 100m fly, and Elanor Loveman 3rd in
the 11 year 400m I.M. and 200m Breaststroke.
Katie Addison (13) and Sam
Rowe (10) managed to swim Regional Qualifying times and
William Addison (11) came away from the event with personal
best times.

Coach Chris Adams, pictured

Trotter, was very pleased with the weekends performances and
proud that the Ladies Junior and Senior Teams were leading the
County Competition at this half way stage.
